Get a taste of earÂly 19th-cenÂtuÂry AlasÂka in CopÂper CenÂter. This small comÂmuÂniÂty locatÂed at the conÂfluÂence of the KlutiÂna and CopÂper Rivers, was estabÂlished in 1898 as a camp for prospectÂing gold minÂers. After the RichardÂson HighÂway route opened in 1900, roadÂhousÂes sprung up every 15 to 20 miles, proÂvidÂing serÂvices for travÂelÂers between Valdez and FairÂbanks. You could get meals, lodgÂing, mail serÂvice, medÂical help, hay for your horse, gasoline… ...more
Housed in rusÂtic log cabÂins, the museÂum offers the visÂiÂtor a unique look at the varÂied past of the CopÂper RivÂer ValÂley area. Exhibits include earÂly minÂing of gold and copÂper, and RussÂian artifacts.
